Career Intern, Career Community

Career Intern, Career Community ‘21-’22
Support a career community in the CCA through research, event assistance, communication with alumni, parents and employers, communicating with and educating students. Staff drop-in hours for CCA and assist students with general career questions.

The Bucknell Career Communities will develop exceptional resources and programming that will expand learning and connections beyond the classroom, encouraging Bucknellians to explore and connect through industry-specific groups and creating a stronger culture of helping and offering opportunities to one another.
The five Career Communities include:
1. Create Arts, Media & Communication
2. Business & Consulting
3. Law, Government & Public Interest
4. Medical, Global Health & Research
5. STEM
-Construction, Manufacturing & Design
-Science, Computing, Technology & Data Management

CAREER COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and stay current on trends happening within the industries represented in career community
Utilize Bucknell alumni database, LinkedIn, etc. to identify companies and alumni within the industries
Keep informed of industry interests and experiences within the student body
Promote the Career Community to students, faculty, and staff on campus
Collaborate with supervisor to create learning opportunities for students
Develop materials and content, coordinating communication with marketing team, to promote campus events and industry resources
Develop projects based on career community and personal interest to be presented throughout the academic year
Other duties as assigned by Career Community leader(s)

DROP-IN HOURS, OUTREACH AND TRAINING
Research, prepare and present student workshops on a specific area of career readiness
Staff general career assistance drop-in hours for CCA - work additional hours during high traffic periods
Provide one-on-one assistance to students, including use of Handshake
Keep informed about upcoming CCA events/promote them to students and alumni
Photocopy, file, answer phones and perform other administrative duties as needed
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and CCA staff members
Attend training sessions and weekly meetings

EXPECTATIONS
Abide by the University Advancement Division’s confidentiality policy
Provide friendly, helpful customer service to callers and visitors
Be punctual and responsible, at all times, to scheduled work hours, events and meetings
Act as an advocate for the CCA in various campus settings
Maintain a professional presence in any location work is being conducted
Assist at job fairs, panels, employer information sessions, events, etc. as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
All majors available to work the academic year, meeting all requirements set-forth by the Student Employment Services Office and university.
Desire to learn about/promote CCA services/programs to Bucknell community
Willingness to learn and demonstrate excellent professional verbal and written communication skills, creativity, empathy, teamwork, and leadership potential
Responsible, punctual, and dependable
Accuracy and attention to detail; flexibility, independence, and initiative
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in sensitive situations
Ability to engage with students, faculty and staff on campus through colleges, departments, and organizations
Exposure to the industry and a foundation in it through experiences, internships, shadow, etc.
Working knowledge of how to use LinkedIn to obtain company information and contacts preferred
Customer service skills
Ability to participate in training during current semester and return to campus prior to the Fall Semester
Start and end dates for the position are dependent on the university's academic calendar and are subject to change
