Lewisburg Prison Project Internships

The Lewisburg Prison Project (LPP), a local nonprofit that advocates for incarcerated individuals regarding conditions of confinement, is seeking two undergraduate interns for the 2025-26 academic year. 

Internship 1: Intern will conduct outreach via email and phone to county jails, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, and the federal Bureau of Prisons to make LPP’s legal bulletins available to incarcerated people. Intern will be trained by the LPP board, and will need to demonstrate initiative, strong communication and organizational skills, follow-through, and comfort with making phone calls.

Internship 2: Intern will conduct research on the physical plant conditions of county jails in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Intern will be expected to communicate with prison advocacy groups and jail staff via email and phone. Intern will be trained by the LPP board, and will need to demonstrate initiative, strong communication and organizational skills, and follow-through.

These internships are particularly good for students intending to work in law, criminal justice, journalism, public policy, and social welfare. Interested students should apply on Handshake. In the application, please rank and explain your internship choice. Positions are open to all students.

Each internship offers a $500 stipend, to be distributed in agreed-upon increments as the work is completed. Students will be supervised by two LPP board members.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning on Sept. 15.
